Email Server PDF Print E-mail

What type of email server should you implement in your business?

The answer will depend on many factors, however this is one place where using open source might make sense.  Rather than pay the high cost of licensing and product fees for a proprietary email server (like MS Exchange), would it make more sense to use the same reliable and secure email server setup that Internet Service Providers and large organizations have used for years?  Typically large service providers use a Linux based email server with open source software.  This not only means less expense up front, but security updates and feature upgrades are rolled out more quickly because they come from the open source community.  And it will grow with your company - no need to purchase expensive additional licenses when you add a few more employees.

Border States Consulting, LLC can help you determine what will be the best email solution for your individual circumstances.

"But what if I don't like SPAM?" PDF Print E-mail

Did you know that approximately 75% of all emails are spam?

The term "spam" for unwanted messages originally came from the "Spam" sketch on the Monty Python comedy show.  A group of Vikings had invaded a diner and continually interrupted the show by repeating "spam" over and over (because every item on the menu had Spam in it).  In the early days of the Internet, disruptive individuals would flood the discussion boards with "spam" repeated over and over.  Thus the term "Spam" came to be associated with unwanted and disruptive messages.

Spam email has become an expensive problem for businesses.  A recent security report listed the origin of spam by country as shown below.  You may be surprised to see where the most spam originates.

  1. USA
  2. China
  3. Russian Federation
  4. Japan
  5. Ukraine

How much is Spam costing your company?  How much time are your employees having to waste each morning sorting through the hundreds of junk messages just to find the legitimate emails?

Why not let Border States Consulting show you how you can leverage open source solutions to reduce or eliminate the spam email problem for your business.

Network Equipment PDF Print E-mail

Routers...Firewalls...Switches...Wireless AP's - Border States Consulting, LLC can supply all your networking hardware needs.  From sale to installation to support, maintenance, and monitoring - you will be pleased with the results.

I believe in using open source solutions whenever possible.  A good example of when open source makes sense is in securing your network.  The VyOS Firewall does an excellent job of protecting your LAN from threats out on the Internet.  It has all the features of the high priced proprietary routers/firewalls on the market today, such as VPN connectivity for road warriors, Point to Point VPN to connect branch offices to your home office, port forwarding, VLAN segmenting, QOS, etc...

Servers PDF Print E-mail

If you are in the market for a new server, Border States Consulting, LLC can help.

Choosing the right server can be a complex decision.  Do you need a domain controller, mail server, or a simple file and print server?  Maybe you need a database server?  What operating system should you go with - Linux, Microsoft, or maybe a combination of both, running virtual machines on VMWare?

Does all the marketing hype about "Cloud" computing and "Virtual" networks confuse you?  Would your company benefit from implementing some of the newer technologies, or would keeping it simple make more sense for your business' roadmap to the future?

Fill in the contact form to schedule a consultation.
